She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing in Tehran and worked as an ICU assistant at the local hospital while studying. After graduating, she began working at a specialized hospital for lung diseases. It became increasingly clear to her: she felt right at home in a hospital setting.
When the qualified nurse had to rebuild her life in the Netherlands, she wanted nothing more than to continue her nursing career. However, this proved to be much more difficult than expected. "It turned out to be a long process to be able to practice as a nurse in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the healthcare system here works very differently than in Iran. I wanted to gain experience as quickly as possible so I could learn how things work here."
She reached out to DUO for a JOB and asked for a mentor with experience in healthcare. Someone who could show her the ropes in the Dutch healthcare sector and help her with the job application process. We matched her with Imca. Imca integrated into the Netherlands herself in 1984, so she understands exactly how Ghazale feels. Imca also went through a long journey, but has now been happily working in healthcare for quite some time.
The duo got off to a flying start, and within just two months, Ghazale found a job! She started the following month as a caregiver at the elderly care facility Frankelandgroep. In addition, she is receiving guidance on her BIG registration through the 'Nieuwkomers in hun kracht' program at Erasmus MC.
Ghazale looks back on her time with Imca with a big smile: "Before I came to DUO, I didn't dare to apply for jobs. Imca helped me overcome that hurdle. I was very insecure about my language skills and asked Imca if she thought they were good enough to apply. Imca said immediately: 'Yes! Just do it, go for it!'. That gave me confidence!"
