A unique and rewarding
human experience

Our intergenerational mentoring program connects a volunteer person over 50 (mentor) with a young job seeker (mentee).

The mentor and mentee form a duo for 6 months, they meet regularly and wors together on a unique action plan based on the mentee's situation, skills & ambitions.

As a mentor, you are trained and supported by DUO for a JOB. You help your mentee overcome obstacles and enable them to achieve their goals.

Through this duo, you step as a mentor out of your comfort zone. You make a positive contribution to society, combat prejudice, develop new skills and join an active network of mentors.

Become a mentor in 5 steps

The key to the success of the DUO for a JOB mentoring program lies in their warm and professional approach and in their proven and solid methodology.

A group of young people are looking in the same direction while following an information session at DUO for a JOB.

1. The info session

We provide all the information about the program and what you can expect from it. You also have the opportunity to ask your questions.

A young woman wearing a veil is sitting next to a DUO coordinator, he explains the program to him

2. Introductory meeting

You are invited to an introductory meeting with a DUO for a JOB coordinator so that we get to know your experiences and expectations.

Three seniors are talking around a table during a training session.

3. Mentor training

Coaching experience is not necessary! Each mentor follows an initial training. During the workshops with various topics, the basic principles and interpersonal skills of a mentor are discussed.

A young black woman in a blue and black dress is sitting next to her future mentor on black chairs in a patio surrounded by plants. They talk to each other.

4. The first encounter

After completing the training, you can be matched. You meet your potential mentee for an informal introduction. After this initial meeting, the mentor and mentee decide whether they want to form a duo. A second meeting is then arranged to sign the mentoring agreement.

Three people are smiling and working together on a computer. They are a young man of Arab origin, his mentor, a white man in his 70s, and their coordinator, a young woman with blond hair.

5. The duo

During 6 months, you will have:

👉 Weekly meetings (~2 hours each) with your mentee
👉 A dedicated coordinator who supervises your mentoring relationship
👉 Workshops and intervision sessions between mentors
👉 A warm and centrally located workspace to meet your mentee

FAQs

Do I get paid as a mentor?

Our volunteer mentors are not paid. As a mentor, you do receive a free 4-day training led by professionals.

What if I don't get along with the mentee?

If a conflict occurs during your mentoring period or if you feel uncomfortable in your duo, don't hesitate to contact your coordinator. We will then try to find a solution so that everything goes as smoothly as possible for both of you. If it turns out that you really can't go on together, we'll put an end to your duo and put you in touch with another mentee.

What does the mentee expect from me?

Each mentee is different, so their needs and expectations aren't always the same either. Generally, the mentee does not have the necessary tools to succeed in the job search. You help the mentee make a plan for the future. Some mentees already know very well what kind of work they want to do. For example, you can help with the search for the right company, with the resume and cover letter and with applying. Other mentees still don't know what kind of work they want or can do. In that case, you will figure this out together. It is also possible that you will be guided in making a choice of study.
